gary_merchant

Born into a flying family, Gary grew up around aeroplanes at his his parents flying club bar at Biggin Hill.

As soon as he could afford it he completed a PPL and later completed his ATPL exams and became a flying Instructor. He quickly moved on to flying Light twins and spent several years flying light turboprops and jets such as the Beech Kingair and Cessna Citation in the air taxi/charter market.

His next job was a base at London City Airport flying the Do328 for ScotAirways. In 2003 Gary started flying the Boeing 737 for easyJet from London Stansted airport, after a year he found himself flying the Airbus 320 and was then sent to London Gatwick where he been based ever since, gaining his command in 2006. In the background Gary kept his FI rating current teaching on light aircraft.

Gary is able to teach most things on all SEP types, tailwheel, aerobatics, IR, and AUPRT. He is also a CAA RT and Flight Examiner.

Flying for 34 years and with over 18,000 hours and many types in his log book he is a now a part time Captain for easyJet, head of training for 2 local training organisations, and a freelance FI/FE working throughout the South East.
