FIC(A) Renewal Training Course

Course AIM

To provide Flight Instructors with the required knowledge and skill to pass the Assessment of Competence.

Prerequisites

FCL.940(b) If the FI certificate has expired, applicants shall, within a period of 12 months before the application date for the renewal complete instructor refresher training as an FI at an ATO or at a competent authority and complete an assessment of competence in accordance with point FCL.935.  The amount of refresher training needed should be determined on a case-by-case basis by the ATO, taking into account the following factors:

  1. The experience of the applicant. This will be determined by the evaluation of the pilot’s log book.
  2. The complexity of the aircraft.
  3. The amount of time elapsed since the expiry of the validity period of the rating. The amount of training needed to reach the desired level of proficiency should increase with the time lapsed.
  4. Once the needs of the applicant have been established, a training programme should be developed based on the initial training for the issue of the Flight Instructor Certificate and focus on aspects where the applicant has shown the greatest need.
  5. On completion of the training the applicant shall pass an assessment of competence in accordance with FCL.935.
