Aerobatic Instructor Training Course

Course AIM

The aim of the Aerobatic Rating Instructor course is to train the holders of a FI(A) or CRI to teach the Aerobatic Rating syllabus in accordance with Part FCL.800.

Prerequisites

General. An applicant for an instructor certificate shall be at least 18 years of age.

An applicant for or the holder of an instructor certificate with privileges to conduct flight instruction in an aircraft shall:

  1. Hold at least the licence and, where relevant, the rating for which flight instruction is to be given.
  2. Except in the case of the flight test instructor, have:
    1. Completed at least 15 hours of flight as a pilot on the class or type of aircraft on which flight instruction is to be given, of which a maximum of 7 hours may be in an FSTD representing the class or type of aircraft, if applicable; or
    2. Passed an assessment of competence for the relevant category of instructor on that class or type of aircraft.
  3. Be entitled to act as PIC on the aircraft during such flight instruction.

Course duration

The Aerobatic Rating Instructor course will take a minimum of 3 days. The course will start at 09:00 hours and finish at 17:00, or later if required due to weather constraints. Part-time courses are expected to take a minimum of 6 working days. The course will integrate the theoretical knowledge, briefings, and air exercises.

Flying time

The course shall comprise of 5 hours of flight training.

Ground school

The course shall comprise of 8 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction, covering the aerobatic rating syllabus, that should already be known by the applicant.
